2015 Bruin Reunion is Kicked Off

It’s that time of year for the chaos of planning to begin for the 2015 reunion. Check out the 2015 tabs to see what’s going on.

Base Camp:  221 Weymouth, Cambria, on Moonstone Beach.
Fellow Bruins
Mark Scofield will be putting together the UCLA reunion this coming summer. We have selected Thursday July 23 to Sunday July 26. If date does not work for someone please let us know.
              The location will be Cambria.
Here’s the basic plan with some additional activity options attached. All dinners will be hosted at the Base Camp, 221 Weymouth, Cambria, Ca. 93428.
1) Thursday Night: Fish Tacos- led by Scott Gee
2) Friday Night: Artisan Pizza – led by Bob Raines (if you have one, please bring a pizza stone and/or slide that can be used on a bbq)
3) Saturday: Brewery Tour – Led by Bob and/or Peter Raines. (look for a communication from Bob after the 4th of July).
4) Saturday Night: BBQ Rib Cookoff  – Chuck Valdez, Jimmy Appel, Scott Gee are our 3 champion contestants.
In order to help share the costs of the dinners, I would like you to either bring a side for 1 one of the dinners or contribute $5 in total per adult ($10 per couple) for the weekend festivities. Kids eat free. We will figure out how to communicate and manage a recommended list of sides (registry) for each dinner. Contributions can be given to Bob Raines, Jim Appel, Chuck Valdez, Karen Ortiz, Deborah Rogayan, or me.

The most amazing creatures in the ocean are sometimes the smallest. Join us to collect oceanographic data from San Simeon Cove, including live plankton. You’ll be astonished at the plant and animal communities living in a drop of seawater. Participants use a video-monitor and the information they find contributes towards valuable data collected by CA Department of Public Health’s Biotoxin Monitoring Program. Exploring Old San Simeon
The History of San Simeon Bay is rich in cultural heritage, from the time the native peoples inhabited the area almost 10,000 years ago to the current ownership by the Hearst family and CA State Parks. Travel through time as we explore the diverse history and uses of San Simeon Cove. Presentation will include a short walk to the end of San Simeon pier and back. Beach Exploration
Learn about the mysteries of San Simeon Cove by beachcombing with marine biologists. Find out what causes high and low tides and investigate the animals and algae cast up on the beach. During low tide, we will explore invertebrate communities that live between the tides. Buckets and gloves will be supplied for those who want to help clean up the beach on our way back!

Marine Mammals of the Central Coast
Learn how to identify local marine mammals, what you should do if you see a sick or injured seal, sea lion or sea otter, and what you can do to keep these animals healthy. Join us for lively presentation with real fur pelts, skulls and bones, followed by a walk to the pier to look for sea otters, harbor seals and other marine mammals that visit our bay!
